The Ministry
Sacred Road Ministries has been established on the Reservation by the Pacific Northwest Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America to establish a dynamic, healthy church in the remote town of White Swan. The Sacred Road team reaches out to the community through: Children’s Ministry - Many of the children in White Swan suffer under poverty, neglect and abuse. SRM ministers to the children of the community through week-long back yard Bible clubs, mercy ministry and Bible lessons, meals and songs during our Tuesday night Bible study at the traditional Longhouse. One of the most effective ways to minister to the children of White Swan is by simply providing a safe place for them to play, rest, learn about the Lord and grow in Him. Youth Ministry - Approximately 70% of teenagers in White Swan are technically homeless and the drop out rate in middle school and high school is 65%. SRM reaches out to about 50 youth (6th-12th grade) in the community through Tuesday night Bible study, discipleship groups, homework tutoring, and monthly large group events like roller skating or bowling. Mercy Ministry - Many of the households and families in White Swan suffer from unemployment, poverty, addictions and are in almost perpetual crisis. SRM serves the community through acts of service such as chopping firewood for elders, providing meals for needy families, providing clothes and furniture for victims of house fires, building wheel chair ramps, painting and upkeep of the longhouse, and other projects. Adult Bible Study - (Hope Fellowship) - In the past, very few people in the community have experienced the love of Christ personally and heard the truth of Christ clearly as it is revealed in the Bible. An average of 80 people attend the Hope Fellowship Bible study every Tuesday night in the White Swan traditional Longhouse. SRM always prepares and serves a meal, leads praise and worship, and has separate Bible lessons for children, youth and adults. The desire is for the Lord to establish a loving and dynamic church through this fellowship group. Work Teams - The people of White Swan (and American Indians in general) have often felt/been mistreated, ignored, overlooked and forgotten by the church in America. SRM hosts an average of 400 believers from churches all over the country to work on week-long teams through the spring and summer. Visiting teams roof and paint homes, do light construction and cleanup. They also help with kid's Bible club in two housing projects on the Reservation. |
